SHOWDOWN @ JACK!

So we've been told that audiences these days can't be satisfied by one New Music ensemble. We've been told that you dirty little fiends can't be satisfied by two or even three New Music ensembles. We've also been told that you're a bunch of prudes that are completely uninterested in groups of 23 or 1,036 New Music ensembles. That's why, when Paul Pinto of ThingNY asked us, we leapt at the chance to join a program of SIX New Music ensembles – the precise number of New Music ensembles that is deemed to be the Goldilocks amount for hip NYC audiences.

It's all part of the Composers Now Festival at JACK (505 1/2 Waverly Ave in Brooklyn) on Monday February 18 at 7:30. For a mere $10, you will indulge in the music of Elevator Rose, Iktus Percussion, the New Thread Quartet, Quiet City, ThingNY and good ol' Anti-Social Music.

We'll throw down the gauntlet with some angry mini-premieres by Pat Muchmore (Fr.VI.a-j for scordatura cello and bass), some laptopped cellification by Kamala Sankaram (boxesBoxesBOXES for cello and laptop) and some advanced mathematical confabulation by Ed RosenBerg III (Chickenometry for soprano, accordion, and beat-boxing strings). It will be a whale of a time.
